This post has been inspired by the lovely Emily C who made flatbreads for the first time recently.

So many of you write and share your Great-Breaden experiences (sorry, that was truly awful) and I thought it would be fun to let you all loose in my virtual bakery!

Please post your recipe derivations for my Fabulous Rubbish Flatbreads on here!

Tell your fellow readers what ingredients you threw in and what you stuffed them with, or did you just eat them ‘naked’?

Send your mouthwatering pictures to me at RubbishAuthor AT gmail DOT com and I’ll put them in the thread.

Looking forward to finding out what inspired you today.

Rubbishly yours,

TS x

Read there, buy here!

Read it there, (buy it here)...!

Ooh!

I nipped on Amazon this morning (as you do) and The Book of Rubbish Ideas popped up (as it does) and there’s a new ’sneaky peek inside the book’ thingie widget to play with…!

(How sad – so easily pleased…)

Anyway, I thought perhaps new readers to the blog might like to have a good sniff through some of my rubbish ideas.

Click here to read them and if you feel a burning urge to purchase, come back and do it direct with the publishers by clicking on the book icon on the right.

I believe they’re still offering the best deal at £4.54 or £3.50 for Sawday’s Travel Club members – RRP £6.99.

Thanks to you all for your continued support of my work and the book and feel free to Tweet it up!

Rubbishly yours,

Good grief, it’s almost July and that means one thing…

The race is on for work-at-home parents up and down the country to crack their most important jobs out before the onset of the 6-week school holidays.

I’m not trying to make it sound like it’s a torturous event, on the contrary, it’s an honour and privilege to share the break with them (quite often something we only recognise after they no longer ‘need’ us) but I’m a firm believer in balance and there will be times when I rely on Spielberg and the electronic babysitter to give me a welcome rest.

"It's the world Jim, but not as we know it..."

"It's the world Jim, but not as we know it..."

It’s crafty Friday yet again.

A few creative mums and I usually get together once a week for a bit of cutting, sticking or Morsbagging and today we decided to draw pictures all over each other – henna pictures to be precise and what a giggle it was.

We used a couple of the henna book complete kits by Alieen Marron, (The Henna Body Art Kit and Tribal Tattoos) which contained a few transfers, a tracing pencil, some tracing paper and all the other malarkey.

I’ve been hankering after a tattoo of the earth on the sole of my feet for ages.  I wanted it there, not for anyone to see particularly, but as a symbol for what I’m trying to do; spreading the message about ways to be kinder to the environment by ‘lightening our footprint’.

Going grey with style...

Going grey with style...

Afternoon all and sundry.

After many happy years of gert lush long hair flapping about in any sort of a wind, I decided to have it all lopped off.

It was a decision I took a few weeks ago and I thought I’d just kick it around a bit before heading for the scissors to see if I wanted to change my mind, but as time went on, the more it irritated me, the hotter I became on sunny days and so finally, yesterday, I lunged for the blades and ooh, I feel like a new woman!

Phew!

I’m home from the 2009 Eco-Rally and oh, what a gig it was.

Late Sunday night found me and my co-driver Joe Wadsworth hovering outside the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton, awaiting a full collective of hungry eco-celebs (Quentin Willson, Robert Llewellyn, Penney Poyzer and more)…

After the exciting arrival of the Tesla and once the blokes had all taken it for a spin around the block, we eventually went trotting off to get a bit off Thai tucker and I sat next to the lovely Robert Llewellyn (Kryten from Red Dwarf).

Carl Honore, the bestselling author of In Praise of Slow joined us and good food was munched by all.  Robert had half an eye on my tasty veg spring rolls and I thought it only fair to share the love…but he wasn’t getting a look in at my sweet and sour prawns.

The Eco-Rally Drivers

The Eco-Rally Drivers

Morning all!

Yes, I know, long time no natter, well, I’ve been up to my ears talking rubbish!

I’ve been doing lots of Lit Fests which are great fun and doing talks around the country on ways to cut the crud out of your life and save yourself a fortune in the process (by the way, if you’re interested in booking me, click here).

And today, I’m about to pack my bag and head to Brighton beach!

On Monday, I’m driving with a delightful handful of planet-loving celebs in the Eco-Rally 2009 (get me, the little ‘Z’ lister!)…

Hi all!

Just a shortie, boy have I got a packed weekend ahead of me.

On Saturday, I’ll be broadcasting an hour of my ‘Slow Down and Green Up’ radio show (usual slot every Wednesday between 10 and 1pm) in celebration of the fact that our radio station has been broadcasting for 40 years to the hospital and 5 years as Apple AM!

If you’re near a computer between 1 and 2pm today, hop onto www.AppleAM.com and click ‘Listen Live’ to hear my mini-eco-show!

And tomorrow, if you’re around in the Oxford area and looking for something to do, I’ll be doing a ‘thing’ at the Dorchester Literery and Arts Festival, see www.DorchesterFestival.com for details – I’m listed under ‘Something Different’ – that sounds about right…..  I’ll be giving a reading from my Book of Rubbish Ideas and demonstrating how you can make my Fabulous Rubbish Flatbreads too – tasty all round!

Then on Monday, I’ll be doing nothing except playing with the kids and poking a nose into my latest can’t put down read, Globestiy, A planet out of control….its compulsive reading for want of a better expression…

Anyway, I hope this finds you all in fine fettle and be sure to do something nice with your loved ones over the Bank Holiday weekend!

Rubbishly yours,

TS x

Danny Carnegie - one of the founders of UK Aware

Danny Carnegie - one of the founders of UK Aware

I’m back in the saddle after spending 3 days up ‘in the smoke’ (that’s London to you missus) attending www.ukaware.com.

I was helping Dave Hampton (the Carbon Coach) to host the speaker panels that were on Friday and Saturday and sat on a panel too on Saturday afternoon.

It was an amazing event – Mr OOFFOO himself, Al Tepper, was there and I had very eco’nversations with the delightful Ruby Wax and the charmingly talented Oliver Heath too.

I could witter on about how much I loved the whole thing, but my calves still haven’t forgiven me! I must have walked 500 miles….

Instead, I thought I’d tell you about my personal favourites in attendance at the show.

1) Morsbags – what smashing ladies (and gents) they are. This is a sociable guerilla bagging group for want of a better description and if you’ve got a sewing machine, you need to visit their site at www.Morsbags.com

2) Nether Wallop Trading – I was honoured to present a little award to them for their Paper Potter….if you’re a keen gardener (and even if you’re not) have a look at this at www.NetherWallopTrading.com

Sprouting Fillers

Sprout yourself silly

Sprout yourself silly

If you’ve got my neverending lettuce’s on the go on your windowsills, well done green-fingered chum, you’re going to love this too!

Here’s another delicious filler to accompany them in salads, sandwiches and in thousands of other dishes; sprouting seeds and beans.

You’ll probably remember cultivating mustard cress at school; I do believe, along with trying to blow up your science lab by mixing exotic coloured bottles of liquid, growing cress was in fact compulsory by international law). It was fun, but it involved cotton wool, plastic boxes, water and patience. Sprouting is much easier and the results are more abundant.

Sprouting beans and seeds are one of the most nutritional forms of raw foods you can get and it’ll come as no surprise, I’m going to urge you to buy the organic versions of. They’re packed with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and proteins, which might not sound instantly appealing but your body will love them. Continue Reading »
