A-ha!
We’re here!
Happy New Year and all that associated malarkey .
I hope your Christmas break was filled with thoughts about how you could be more resourceful with the rubbish you found yourself wading through. If like me, you managed to miss the bin men, you’re probably still harbouring a stack of recycling for the good truck and a couple of bags of rubbish film and irritating plastic for the bad truck – boy that stuff annoys me.
I’ve had a tremendous break away from all things with plugs on, including computers and it has done me the world of good, but for the latter part of the holiday, I found myself itching to grab a pen and paper and have been merrily scribbling my rubbish thoughts for the blog and for the new book too! It’s just all too exciting!
I’ve tried to steer away from making any resolutions I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep but have entered ‘09 with a burning passion to do something really worthwhile and have decided to combine reducing the size of my lardy butt (partly gained whilst sitting and penning ‘The Book of Rubbish Ideas’) with raising money for a charity close to my heart, NACOA (The National Association for Children of Alcoholics). If you’ve read my book, you’ll certainly recognise their name and know I donate money from the sale of each book to them already.
I’ve decided to ditch the choco, exercise myself into a healthier frame and do The Great North Swim in September, which equates to a mile of open swimming across Lake Windermere in beautiful Cumbria.
The water temperature will be somewhere in the region of about 15 degrees (read as: fippin’ cold) and I’ll have to don a rather attractive rubber suit – nice – which will help keep the heat in (especially useful, as I’m about to shed all my natural insulation..Kit Kat, come back)…
I have set up a ‘Just Giving’ page for anyone that wants to donate any loose change found down the back of the sofa (sterling, sheckles, US$, Yen and buttons, all accepted).
There’s an overwhelming feeling of well-being that washes over you when you do a voluntary something and put a little of your time and energy back into the world’s pot – perhaps this might serve as a timely thought provoker for you and if you’re starting the New Year with a similar plan, please drop a note into the comments box! I’d love to see what madness you’re planning on too!
Oh, it’s so nice to be back in the saddle again!
Rubbishly yours,
TS x
Gawd Blimey woman, I’m planning nothing as bonkers as that!!! I was thinking of giving up wispers and drinking an extra glass of water….
LOLOLOL…..that’s cracked me up mate! It’s funny, but I had a shot of fear run through me when I saw that YouTube film, but actually, am still up for it….I’ll probably be the last one over the line but really am not bovered!
I think I might have to put something funky on my swimin’ cap so you can easily identify me when the BBC News do late night coverage, with search lamps, looking for useless stragglers to feed to the St John’s Ambulance Team…

Wow – That swim looks like a great way to reduce some surplus stuff around the middle after the festive period. What an inspiration. What a great way to get something amazing acheived, by setting a realistic goal and for so many good reason. A winner all the way.
I have decided to do a local 10k run on the back of seeing this Oooer.
Hey Dave! Great to see another new face in the comments boxes and I’m delighted to hear you’ve been inspired to do somethiing too…..truth be told, I’m dead anxious, but I’m determined to go for it and am already enjoying being a bit more food conscious….no norty chocolate nibbles whilst on air today….in fact, I’ve just had a delicious banana which has filled me up a treat.
Being good, being good.
Tell us more about your 10k run and well done mate, good for you!!!
Rubbishly yours,
TS x
Wow, you brave girl! We wish you all the best and think you’re amazing for doing this. We’ve done the sponsorship thingy for you and hope you raise oodles of cash for NACOA.
You really are superwoman – GO CHICK!
Love Deb & family x
The sponsorship thing is really easy, come on all you peeps, sponsor our fave gal today!
Debbie – you gorgeoue chickie! LOL…thanks for that missus…lolol….don’t know about superwoman, but I’m just really keen to get into a heathier frame and do something really worthwhile along the way.
Your sponsorship really gave me a huge boost – thank you.

That reply is still cracking me up……the training is going well by the way! I’m half a stone lighter (since before Christmas) and am quite enjoying the focus. I have 4 other people I know doing it, so we have a bit of moral support too.
I’m knocking together a little blogsite for it, so you’ll be able to follow the progress – I’ll announce it on here soon…
Rubbishly yours,
TS xx
I think I must be cracking up! I have just agreed to do the Great North Swim with you! I have great faith that it will be enormous fun, and we will both raise huge amounts of cash for charity – must get onto the website to book myself in before I chicken out! It will be great, and we can have a bit of fun practising too – think we should get the OB team out to comment on our progress??!!
OH MY WORD! Wonderful news Jo, I’m over the moon! What fantastic fun it will be training beside you too. Thanks for coming on my show today, you are a star and doing such great work for the Foundation Trust.
Do let me know when you’ve set up your charity fundraising page and we can get to work spreading the word and shifting more lard! LOLOL…
Who are you going to do it for, have you decided yet?
Respectfully yours,

PS: Overjoyed might I add…
